About Me
Growing up in Louisville, Ky I found my love of photography in my high school photo class. I’m a Visual Journalism and Photography major at Western Kentucky University, where my passion for creating has only grown.
Artist’s Statement
I was born curious.
My mom says that as a toddler I frequently would play with her intricate jewelry as she held me, emboldened by the bright colors and textures. I asked questions that were hard to answer to a small child, “why don’t planes have license plates?” or the ever existential “what happens after we die, Mom?”
Today, I like to think I know a few of the answers to my burning childhood questions, and I am no longer small enough, at the age of 20, to be held in my mother's arms, but I am still more curious than ever.
In my early days of image making around the age of 15, a street photographer and mentor sent me a copy of his latest book. Inscribed on the first page I read something I will never forget, “The camera is a license to see, keep your eyes and mind open.”
Through insatiable curiosity and exploration, I use my camera to tell the stories of others and find what makes them tick.
Recognition I have received includes the 2020 National Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards for photography during the Breonna Taylor protests; an Award of Excellence in the 77th College Photographer of Year Competition in the category of Sports Feature; 8th place in the Multimedia II category in the 2023 Hearst Journalism Awards Program.
